| 24th October, 2008 - 12:36 am |  Press Release - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Bret Hedican to a one-year contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
“Bret is a mobile defenseman coming off a strong season with Carolina last year," said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. "He's a proven winner and class act, and we’re pleased to add him to our roster.”
Hedican, 38 (8/10/70), appeared in 66 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2007-08, scoring 2-15=17 points with a career-high +17 rating and 70 penalty minutes (PIM). He finished tied for first on the Hurricanes and tied for 13th among NHL defensemen in plus/minus while also leading Carolina defensemen in time on ice (19:17 TOI).
Originally selected by St. Louis in the 10th round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft (198th overall), Hedican has played for the Blues (1991-94), Vancouver Canucks (1994-99), Florida Panthers (1999-02) and Carolina Hurricanes (2002-08). In 988 career NHL games, Hedican has scored 54-234=288 points with 857 PIM.
A native of North St. Paul, Minnesota, Hedican appeared in all 25 of Carolina’s 2006 playoff games en route to the Stanley Cup. The 6-2, 210-pound blueliner, who also reached the Stanley Cup Final with Vancouver in 1994, has collected 4-22=26 points with 108 PIM in 108 career NHL Playoff games. A two-time U.S. Olympian in 1992 and 2006, Hedican has appeared in 14 contests for Team USA in Albertville, France and Torino, Italy. [READ] |
