| 9th May, 2008 - 10:26 pm | Andrew Perna/RealGM - The Pittsburgh Penguins scored first and trailed for less than two minutes against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night in Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Petr Sykora found the net at the 6:19 mark of the first period, but Mike Richards answered with a pair of his own to give the Flyers an early 2-1 lead.
Less than two minutes after Richards gave Philadelphia the lead, Sidney Crosby tied things up with a tip-in score on Martin Biron.
Evgeni Malkin then put Pittsburgh ahead for good on a wrist shot with less than seven seconds left on the clock in the first period.
After five scores in the first twenty minutes, the defense and goaltenders settled in, as just one goal was scored in the final forty minutes.
Unfortunately for the Flyers, it was Malkin striking again on a shorthanded slap shot early in the second period.
Philadelphia attempted seven more shots on goal in the loss but racked up ten more penalty minutes at the Mellon Arena. Those additional minutes gave the Penguins a man advantage often in the third period, keeping the Flyers from mounting a comeback and fortifying Pittsburgh's momentum.
Game Two will be Sunday night in Pittsburgh. [READ] |
