| 3rd May, 2008 - 10:06 pm | Andrew Perna/RealGM - The Philadelphia Flyers eliminated the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night with a 6-4 win at the Bell Centre.
The Flyers fell behind 2-1 after the first period as Alexei Kovalev tipped in his fifth goal of the playoffs.
Montreal's Christopher Higgins opened the second period with a goal of his own, but the Flyers answered with three-straight (Mike Richards, R.J. Umberger and Scott Hartnell) to take the lead.
Trailing by a goal entering the final twenty minutes, Andrei Kostitsyn tied the game at 4-4 with a slick wrist shot at the 2:13 mark of the third period.
After allowing four goals, Martin Biron finally righted the ship and kept Montreal out of the net for the rest of the game, while the offense came to his rescue.
Scottie Upshall gave Philadelphia the lead with a tip-in at the 16:56 mark, and Mike Knuble sealed the series-clinching win with an empty net goal with less than a minute left on the clock.
The Flyers await the winner of the Penguins/Rangers series, which will resume on Sunday with Pittsbrugh holding a 3-1 lead. [READ] |
