Nieuwendyk Puts Retirement On Hold

Miami Herald - A day after Joe Nieuwendyk helped Florida win its season opener by scoring twice, coach Jacques Martin confirmed Nieuwendyk contemplated retirement at the end of last season.

Luckily for the Panthers, Nieuwendyk didn't spend much time thinking that way.

''When he came here, one of the goals was for us to make the playoffs,'' Martin said. ``When we didn't, it was hard on him. That's why I suggested he take some time to make a decision.'' [READ]
