Brodeur Ties Sawchuk For Third On Wins List

Herald Sun - Zach Parise scored twice and Brian Gionta had three assists to lead the New Jersey Devils past the Hurricanes 4-0 on Friday night, sending the champs to a second straight home loss to open the season.

Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias also scored goals for New Jersey, while Martin Brodeur made 29 saves for his 81st career shutout and 447th victory -- moving him into a tie for third place on the career list with Terry Sawchuk.

It was an ugly loss for the Hurricanes against a team they had beaten in the second round of the playoffs last season. And now they can look at a seven-game road trip, which begins Saturday against Washington, as a chance to start over.

"I think it's a good time to get out on the road," coach Peter Laviolette said. "There's always less pressure to put on a show when you get on the road and you can get back to more fundamentals." [READ]
